Knicks vs. Celtics final score: New York earns rare 89-86 win in Boston

The New York Knicks overcame a late rally to defeat the Boston Celtics, 89-86. New York had lost 13 straight games in Boston dating back to the 2006 season. Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire came up big for the Knicks who overcame a triple-double from Rajon Rondo.

Both teams flexed their defensive muscles in the second half. The Knicks led by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter before the Celtics began to chip away. Two Rajon Rondo free throws pulled the Celtics to within just two points, 86-84 with just 2:58 to go. However, the Celtics missed out on a game-tying attempt as Paul Pierce turned the ball over thanks to some solid defense from J.R. Smith with just 7.1 seconds remaining.

Anthony finished with a game-high 28 points and nine rebounds on 11-28 shooting. Amare Stoudemire chipped in 15 points and nine boards off the bench while Jason Kidd and Iman Shumpert finished with 12 and 10 respectively.

Rondo recorded his fourth triple-double of the season for the Celtics with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.Pierce finished with 22 points on 6-15 shooting but his turnover late cost Boston a chance to tie the game. Kevin Garnett finished with 8 points and 12 rebounds.
