US PRESSWIRE

The Heat and Nets will play for the third time this season on Wednesday night at the Barclays Center. The Eastern Conference showdown is one of 12 games on the schedule.

The Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets will square off at the Barclays Center on ESPN Wednesday night in a battle of two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. The showdown is part of a busy night featuring 12 games on the NBA schedule.

The Heat (28-13) have dominated the Nets in recent years, winning 12 straight in the series, including two by double-digits this season. But this is a different Brooklyn team than from earlier in the year, as they sit fourth in the East with a record of 27-18, three games behind Miami.

The Nets have also been great at home over the past month, not losing at the Barclays Center since an ugly Christmas Day loss to the Boston Celtics. Meanwhile, the Heat have been perfectly mediocre on the road, sporting a 10-10 record away from American Airlines Arena.

The late-night game on ESPN is between the suddenly resurgent Los Angeles Lakers and the woeful Phoenix Suns. The Lakers (20-25) have won three-straight games, thanks in large part to Kobe Bryant's willingness to become a distributor on the offensive end. The Suns (15-30) have lost two in a row.

Perhaps the most fun match-up of the night will be in Denver where the Nuggets host the Houston Rockets. The Nuggets (28-18) are fourth in the NBA in scoring at 103.5 points per game, and they are averaging 112.3 points during their four-game winning streak. The Rockets (25-22) are second in the league in scoring at 104.9 points per game.
