Rudy Gay trade rumors: Grizzlies 'determined' to act quickly, according to report

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

With rumors intensifying, the Grizzlies are reportedly determined to unload Rudy Gay's contract before this year's deadline. Will the forward be heading to Toronto?

Despite conflicting reports on their ultimate intentions, the Memphis Grizzlies have become "determined" to unload forward Rudy Gay and his substantial contract before this year's trade deadline, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Since the Grizzlies' new ownership overhauled the front office in recent months, the team has been aggressively trying to find a suitable deal to move Gay's contract, Wojnarowski says. Rumors have persisted for months regarding a possible deal, but they've hit a fever pitch in recent days as negotiations with the Toronto Raptors progress.

The Raptors' desire to acquire Gay is rather undoubtable at this point, but it's unclear whether the reciprocated interest will be enough to complete a deal. Any trade sending Gay to Toronto will require the Raptors to give up guard Jose Calderon, but Memphis has no interest in adding the veteran's $10.5 million expiring contract due to tax concerns.

With both sides deep into negotiations, the Raptors are now reportedly trying to find a third team that's willing to facilitate the deal by acquiring Calderon. There's no lack of interest in the veteran, according to ESPN's Marc Stein on the radio this morning, but the need to find a third team complicates the situation.
