The Memphis Grizzlies are closing in on a deal to send Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors, and the Detroit Pistons could be the third wheel.

The Memphis Grizzlies have a framework set to send forward Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. The proposed deal will send Gay and big man Hamed Haddadi to the Raptors, and Toronto will trade big man Ed Davis to Memphis.

The Detroit Pistons could be the third wheel in the deal, and they could receive veteran point guard Jose Calderon from the Raptors, according to Stein. He also reports that Dallas is another third team that could land Calderon, though the Mavericks are not hot on sending Vince Carter away.

This is the first report of who could be involved as the third team, but Stein reports that the Pistons' role is not set in stone. However, the Pistons have long coveted Calderon, and they have a small forward in Tayshaun Prince who could be sent to Memphis, filling Gay's shoes with a reliable, veteran presence who can make his mark with his defense.

Memphis has long been seeking a small forward if they were going to deal Gay.
