Rudy Gay trade rumors: Grizzlies' F believes he'll finish season in Memphis

Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

Memphis Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay told reporters that he believes he'll still be with the team after the trade deadline.

After a piece on Grantland.com cited sources who said the Memphis Grizzlies were shopping forward Rudy Gay, the forward told MemphisSport.com that he expected to remain with the team.

"As of right now, yeah, I do," said Gay, when asked if he believes he will finish out the season in Memphis. "I do. Nobody has said anything to me about it, so I do."

Gay, the 6'8, 230 pound forward, leads the Grizzlies with 18.1 points per game, but it's his salary and inconsistencies that have his name atop the list of players Memphis might look to move. He even admitted to MemphisSport.com that his salary was perhaps the reason why trade rumors are swirling around him once again.

On a five-year, $82 million deal that was signed in the summer of 2010, Gay's salary could be dumped to help ease the Grizzlies' cap situation, which is currently $4 million over the luxury tax threshold.

Gay is in his sixth season out of UConn and while his numbers are around his career averages of 17.9 points and 5.7 rebounds, he's currently having the worst shooting season of his career. The 45 percent career shooter is knocking down just 41 percent of his attempts.
