Scott Skiles denies report that he 'hated' coaching Milwaukee Bucks

USA TODAY Sports

Fired Milwaukee Bucks head coach Scott Skiles said that a report indicating he didn't like his team was a lie.

Fired on Tuesday, former Milwaukee Bucks head coach Scott Skiles isn't going on a slash-and-burn campaign against his former employer. Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported after the firing that a coaching friend of Skiles said Skiles "hated his team," but the ex-coach fired back on Tuesday afternoon.

Skiles told Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that report was false:

"That's an absolute lie," Skiles said. "If (the writer) has that information, it was given to him by somebody to demean me."

The Bucks organization released a statement with the news of the firing on Tuesday and said it was a mutual decision. The coach and General Manager John Hammond met Monday afternoon and decided it was time to move in another direction.

In his fifth season with the team, Skiles had led Milwaukee to a 16-16 record and finishes there with a 162-182 record.

Skiles admitted to the Journal Sentinel that there was the normal "friction" between coaches and players in Milwaukee, but followed that up by saying it was relatively a "good group of guys" as far as NBA standards are concerned.

He said that he'd leave it to other people in the NBA to "burn people."
