The Spurs were apparently the only NBA team to offer the swingman an opportunity this summer.
Corey Maggette: "If I could get an opportunity here, it would be great. If not, this game has been good to me."— Jeff McDonald (@JMcDonald_SAEN) October 13, 2013
The 33-year-old Maggette does have a slim shot at making a 15-man roster that must be decided upon by opening night. San Antonio has 14 guaranteed contracts, leaving one spot open, but the team could also decide not to fill the roster to the brim. Also fighting for a roster spot in the preseason are center Marcus Cousin, forward Dan Nwaelele, and guards Courtney Fells and Myck Kabongo.
Kabongo is expected to join the Spurs' D-League team in Austin, which he could do without being signed to the Spurs roster. But that would not allow him to move between the parent and minor league clubs at will unless he's signed to a 10-day contract or two during the season.
Maggette played in 27 minutes during the Spurs' preseason loss to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. He had 10 points, three assists and two rebounds.
The 6'6, 225-pound small forward has career averages of 16 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
