NBA schedule: Memphis visits San Antonio, Dwight Howard makes Rockets debut

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Dwight Howard's wearing red and Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce won't be wearing Celtic green. It all means that they and their peers are set to make their season debuts on a busy Wednesday.

All eyes will be on the Lone Star State, where the Houston Rockets play host to the Charlotte Bobcats in Dwight Howard's Houston debut on Wednesday night. The Oklahoma City Thunder will visit the Utah Jazz to open up their season, and 12 other games will tip off on an action-packed night.

Elsewhere, the Brooklyn Nets will visit the Cleveland Cavaliers in both team's season opener, and each will look different than last year in more ways than one.

The Cavaliers' biggest offseason acquisition was Andrew Bynum, who will suit up for the first time since playing for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2012. No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett will join him in the frontcourt rotation, while Kyrie Irving will look to take another major step forward in his development into an NBA superstar.

The Nets feature NBA veterans Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett sporting black rather than Boston Celtics green, and fans will get a snippet of whether the Nets will be a legitimate powerhouse in the Eastern Conference.

Madison Square Garden figures to be lively when the Knicks host the Milwaukee Bucks to begin their quest for conference supremacy. Carmelo Anthony is looking for rings rather than scoring titles, and the hope in the Big Apple is that he has the team around him to do it.

Wizards fans will get a look at new acquisition Marcin Gortat and how he'll mesh with Nene Hilario, who moves back to his natural power forward position with Gortat at the five spot.

It figures to be an exciting night. Here are the 14 games on the schedule (all times ET):
