A chest contusion will keep Tim Duncan out of Friday's game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Lakers. The San Antonio Express-News' Jeff McDonald reports Spurs coach Gregg Popovich officially ruled his forward/center out and that Boris Diaw will take Duncan's place in the starting lineup.
Popovich added that Duncan, who was previously listed as day-to-day, could return in the second or third game of San Antonio's current road trip. The Spurs play the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday and the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.
Duncan suffered the chest contusion in the season-opening win Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies. At the beginning of the third quarter, he left the game after taking a Tony Allen elbow to the chest, which caused Duncan to experience spasms in his neck and shoulders.
