Heat vs. Nets 2013 final score: Brooklyn survives Miami comeback to win,101-100

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Brooklyn mostly controlled the game, but the Heat nearly came back to win.

With the Heat down two and less than four seconds to play, Chris Bosh attempted to miss a free throw but his shot rattled in. The ball was inbounded to Paul Pierce, who threw the ball up court as time expired and the Nets held on to win, 101-100.

Pierce finished the night with 19 points, six assists and five rebounds. LeBron James scored a game-high 26 points, collected seven rebounds and dished out six assists. His 13-point fourth quarter brought Miami within striking distance, but wasn't enough to overcome the lead that Brooklyn built.

A 31-point third quarter gave the Nets a 78-67 lead heading into the final 12 minutes of play.  Brooklyn kept pace for much of the fourth quarter, but its 13-point lead was cut to 10 when Ray Allen knocked down a three-pointer from the right wing. Paul Pierce came down the court and scored on a turnaround jumper, then LeBron scored an easy bucket in the post.

Miami cut the lead a couple minutes later when Mario Chalmers netted two free throws. Brooklyn turned the ball over on its next possession but Miami couldn't capitalize when LeBron was called for traveling in the post. Joe Johnson drained a three-pointer from the right wing on the Nets' next possession, cushioning Brooklyn's lead to 11.

The Heat continued to fight, though. Chris Bosh netted two free throws to cut the lead to eight  with 1:49 left to play. A few empty possessions for both sides led to Dwyane Wade hitting a corner three to bring Miami within five points with just over 50 seconds remaining. Chalmers nailed a three-pointer to bring the score to 96-94 with 18.1 seconds left.

Deron Williams was fouled, missed his first free throw and hit his second to give the Nets a three-point lead. Ray Allen was fouled off the ball and was sent to the line with 7.9 remaining. Allen, uncharacteristically, split the pair and Pierce was sent to the charity stripe on the opposite end. Pierce gave Brooklyn a four point lead with his two freebies.

The game looked over, but LeBron nailed a three-pointer from the left corner, leaving 4.7 seconds on the clock. Joe Johnson nailed two free throws to give Brooklyn a 101-98 lead. Garnett purposefully fouled Bosh on the inbounds catch and the 6'11 forward was sent to the line, a recurring theme here. Bosh hit the first and attempted to shoot a rainbow shot off the back rim, but the ball rattled in. Brooklyn quickly inbounded to Pierce and Pierce tossed the ball down the floor as the clock expired.
