Timberwolves vs. Nuggets final score: Denver uses balanced attack to top Minnesota, 117-113

Doug Pensinger

Minnesota sticks around late but Denver squeaks out with the win at home.

The Timberwolves wouldn't go away quietly, but a late offensive rebound and free throw by Nuggets point guard Andre Miller sealed the win for Denver, 117-113. Wilson Chandler led Denver with 19 points off the bench and Kenneth Faried, in the midst of trade speculation, recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Seven Nuggets scored at least 10 points in Denver's balanced attack.

It was easy to write off the Nuggets after the team's lackluster 1-4 start, but they have bounced back by winning three straight games -- against the Jazz, the Lakers and now the Timberwolves. The win Friday night will put Denver right in the middle of the Western conference.

Point guard Ty Lawson was poked in the eye late in the game. He was taken out and there has been no update on his status.

Minnesota came into the game with the fifth best offense and defense in the league, according to Basketball Reference. The Timberwolves have scored at least 113 points in four of their last five games. Only eight players logged minutes for Minnesota but three of those guys -- Kevin Love, Kevin Martin and J.J. Barea -- scored more than 20 points.

Denver (4-4) will hit the road for a tough two-game road stretch against Houston and Oklahoma City. Minnesota (6-4) will fly back home to take on the Celtics on Saturday.
