Tony Allen suspended one game for kicking Chris Paul in the face

Memphis will be without its lockdown defender on Wednesday night against the Warriors.

The inevitable suspension for Tony Allen's roundhouse kick Monday night came Tuesday. The league announced that the Memphis Grizzlies guard will be suspended for one game.

Allen will be unavailable Wednesday against the Golden State Warriors after his egregious, and all-too-accurate, leg kick planted Chris Paul in the face during the first quarter of Monday night's game between Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Clippers. Allen was ejected from the contest.

Memphis started the year 3-5, but has won its last three games to regain footing in the Western Conference.

Allen, one of the most important cogs in an annually stifling Grizzlies defense, is averaging nearly 10 points and a career-high 1.9 steals per game through Memphis' first 11 games. Allen took to Twitter shortly after the league's announcement:

Allen is consistently one of the league's finer perimeter defenders and will surely be missed Wednesday night against a powerful Warriors offense.

On Tuesday, Golden State announced that Stephen Curry will sit out against the Grizzlies with a concussion. The Curry-Allen matchup would have been a must watch. Unfortunately, it won't be happening, at least not Wednesday.
