For a banged-up player like Dwight Howard, All-Star Weekend would seem to be the perfect opportunity for some much-needed rest. The Lakers center will play on Sunday barring any setbacks with his shoulder, though.
Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard will play in the 2013 NBA All-Star Game this weekend, barring any setbacks with his shoulder, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN Los Angeles reports.
Howard, voted a starter by the fans despite his up-and-down debut season in L.A., has struggled through a variety of back and shoulder issues after undergoing surgery on his back during the offseason. He's played in 46 of the team's 52 games so far this season, but he's often looked noticeably limited on the court.
Still, one has to wonder why Howard would turn down the opportunity for much-needed time off in order to play in a meaningless exhibition game.
"Despite repeatedly saying his long term health was his primary concern, and missing critical regular season games during the Lakers seven game road trip, it appears Dwight will play on and take part in All-Star weekend," writes SB Nation's Lakers blog, Silver Screen and Roll.
The All Star Game is at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday night, broadcast on TNT.
