Spurs vs. Cavaliers final score: Spurs down Cavs in thriller, 96-95

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

The Spurs spoiled Cleveland's upset hopes in a thriller that could have gone either way behind Kawhi Leonard's heroics.

Kawhi Leonard hit a three-pointer with 2.9 seconds remaining to lift the San Antonio Spurs to a 96-95 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road at Quicken Loans Arena on Wednesday night.

Kyrie Irving tried to answer in the waning seconds, but an awkward runner fell off to the left as he slipped and fell to the floor to end the game.

Tony Parker led the way for San Antonio, scoring 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, adding seven assists and six rebounds in his first game back from injury. Leonard finished with a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double. Five Spurs scored in double figures en route to the team shooting 45.2 percent. They struggled from the three-point line, however, making just 26.3 percent of their looks from deep.

Irving had a team-high 20 points for the Cavs, adding six rebounds and four assists. Tyler Zeller added 16 points for Cleveland.

The game was close throughout the night, featuring 11 ties and 12 lead changes. The biggest disparity on the team stat sheet was in the points in the restricted area, where San Antonio won that margin, 50-44.
