NBA Slam Dunk Contest 2013: Jeremy Evans uses Mark Eaton as awesome prop

The reigning champ knows what the Utah fans came here to see.

Jeremy Evans won one of the worst Slam Dunk Contests in history last year, thanks to a fan vote and pretty much process of elimination, but he went big — REALLY big — with his first dunk, bringing out 7-foot-5-inch Jazz legend Mark Eaton, sitting down, to jump over. It was pretty swell.

He took a number of attempts before he eventually executed it, and scored a 47 anyway. Evans is a tall dude, to say nothing of Eaton, but this dunk could have used a bit more pizzazz. Maybe a double-clutch, maybe put Eaton a little further back and have him toss it over his head, à la Josh Smith and Kenyon Martin. This just feels a little flat.

These judges have been giving gifts. Yao and Hakeem are notoriously charitable people. I would have probably held up a 9, but I would have been thinking about an 8.
