NBA trade rumors 2013: Nuggets reportedly turn down deal for Brandon Roy

Jesse Johnson-US PRESSWIRE

The Wolves hope to move Brandon Roy's non-guaranteed contract for a piece before Thursday's trade deadline, but Timofey Mozgov won't be that piece.

The Denver Nuggets are trying to move Timofey Mozgov, but Brandon Roy is not nearly enough for them to deal the center, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski. Odds are that is because it is unlike that Roy will play in the NBA ever again.

The Minnesota Timberwolves were turned down on an offer of Brandon Roy and a first-round pick to Denver for center Timofey Mozgov, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Roy doesn't expect to play again. He has little or no cartilage left in his knees, a problem that forced him into one retirement and then cut his season short this year when he attempted a comeback. While he has yet to say that he is done for good, that is what he and the Timberwolves both expect.

The Wolves been shopping him with the hope of getting something in return for Roy's contract, which is not guaranteed for next season. The Nuggets obviously want more than just some possible cap room and a pick for Mozgov, though.

The Nuggets would like to move Mozgov so they can get something back for the center, who will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. Odds are that they will not be able to match an offer sheet for Mozgov this offseason so if they can get something of value for him now they would be ecstatic, but they are still the fifth seed in the West and playoff bound so they can't just give him away.
