Andrea Bargnani injury: Raptors big man set to return Wednesday

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Raptors will have Andrea Bargnani available to play against the Boston Celtics Wednesday for the first time since December.

Andrea Bargnani will make his return from a torn elbow ligament on Wednesday against the Boston Celtics, according to the Toronto Sun's Ryan Wolstat. The Toronto Raptors big man hasn't played since a Dec. 10 game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Toronto's former No. 1 overall pick had recently returning to practice, and the National Post's Eric Koreen reported Tuesday that a physical practice showed good signs that he was close to his debut.

Averaging 16 points and 4.3 rebounds per game, the 7-footer will come off the bench for head coach Dwane Casey, who offered no hints as to how many minutes Bargnani will play, reports Wolstat.

Though Toronto traded power forward Ed Davis in return for swingman Rudy Gay, Bargnani could still be on the outside looking into the starting lineup. He will be behind Amir Johnson and one of either rookie Jonas Valanciunas or big man Aaron Gray.

Bargnani was told during his recovery that he would come off the bench -- that was before Davis was shipped to Memphis.
