David Stern confirmed that the Seattle group led by Chris Hansen has filed papers to move the Kings from Sacramento.

NBA commissioner David Stern said on Wednesday that the group headed by Seattle investor Chris Hansen has officially filed papers to the league to move the Kings from Sacramento to Seattle. Stern called the proposal "very strong".

The deadline to file for relocation is March 1. Stern gave the first public confirmation of the move when meeting with the media before Wednesday night's Timberwolves vs. Spurs matchup in Minnesota.

The fight over the Kings remains far from finished. Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson has spent weeks rallying support to keep the franchise in California's capitol, and has lined up an impressive amount of investors, headlined by Ron Burkle and 24 Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov.

Johnson will make his final pitch to keep the Kings in Sacramento in April, and the league plans on vetting the proposal from the bidding Sacramento group prior to Johnson's presentation.
