Carmelo Anthony injury: Knicks star to return Monday night vs. Warriors

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Knicks will have Carmelo Anthony available as they begin a road trip Monday night against the Golden State Warriors.

UPDATE: Anthony says he will play Monday against Golden State, Marc Berman of the New York Post reports. The Knicks star says he's no longer playing in pain, just dealing with some stiffness given the fluid built up in his knee.

Carmelo Anthony is listed as probable to open the New York Knicks' five-game road swing against the Golden State Warriors on Monday night, according to the team. A sore knee has kept Anthony from the last three games for the Knicks, but it was considered minor as an MRI revealed only fluid buildup.

Without Anthony, New York has impressed behind inspired defense and a 26.7 scoring average from reserve guard J.R. Smith. The team has won two of three games, the lone loss coming in a close 95-94 defeat at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Knicks are coming off a 113-84 home victory against Utah, where they rolled despite being without Anthony and forward Amare Stoudemire, who has been ruled out for six weeks with his own knee issue.

Anthony appeared to injure his knee last Monday against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but later said he had been dealing with a sore knee for a few days.

He is second in the NBA with a 28.2 points-per-game average.
