Kyrie Irving injury: Cavaliers' star out 3-4 weeks with shoulder sprain

USA TODAY Sports

Kyrie Irving will miss three to four weeks with a shoulder sprain.

Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving will miss the next three to four weeks with a left shoulder sprain, the team announced on Monday. After injuring his shoulder in the third quarter of a 100-96 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, further examination and an MRI at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health revealed an AC (acromioclavicular) sprain.

Irving shot two free throws with one hand in the game after the injury following a drive to the hoop and then laying on the ground in pain. He played 25 minutes, and recorded 12 points and four assists on Sunday.

Irving is averaging 23 points and 5.7 assists per game for the Cavaliers this season. However, he has struggled with health issues, playing in 49 of the team's 63 games thus far. He dealt with a broken finger and a hyperextended knee earlier on this season, and Irving most recently returned from the knee injury on March 4 against the New York Knicks.

Cleveland next plays the Washington Wizards at home on Tuesday night.
