Derrick Rose injury: Point guard clears the air, says he's not rushing back

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose cleared the air on Tuesday, telling the media he isn't rushing back and is feeling no pressure from the organization.

Derrick Rose said he's not rushing back from an ACL tear that required surgery 10 months ago. And he added that the Chicago Bulls aren't rushing him back either, according to Chicago Tribune beat writer K.C. Johnson.

Like the USA Today report from Feb. 13, Rose reiterated that he's not returning until he's feeling physically set.

"I'm waiting to that day where I feel normal," Rose told Johnson and others before a practice at UCLA. "Until then, I will just wait. I haven't had any pressure from the organization. No one has to push me to go out there to play."

Speaking with the media on Tuesday, the point guard also defended his brother, Reggie Rose, after he made pointed comments about how the organization was not doing what it takes to support Derrick from a roster perspective. Rose said that it was people "making stuff up" regarding any disagreements he had with the Bulls organization.

He added that there haven't been any steps backward in his rehabilitation.

While the one-time MVP again said he wasn't sure about returning this season, it had nothing to do with anything but his own health. That came days after ESPN's Doris Burke reported that though he had been medically cleared to play, Rose was dealing with hamstring soreness as he works toward a return.

Rose said he's rebuilding his mental focus. When the day comes that he's able to read and react without thinking, he just might return.
