Kevin Garnett injury: Celtics big man '50/50 at best' to play Monday vs. Heat

USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Garnett's status is still up in the air when the Celtics take on the Heat Monday. Garnett missed Saturday's game with a strained left abductor and did not practice on Sunday.

Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers said that veteran big man Kevin Garnett is "50/50 at best" to play on Monday against the Miami Heat due to a strained left abductor, according to Baxter Holmes of the Boston Globe.

Garnett was a late scratch prior to the Celtics' 105-88 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday and did not practice on Sunday. Rivers gave Garnett the days off because he was not looking good in practice in the days before. However, Rivers does not believe the injury will be a long-term thing:

"Even if he misses a couple games, it' not an injury that's a big deal. I'm not that concerned about it," Rivers said. "I don't think it's that serious, but it's just a point in the year where you're just not going to play him if he's not feeling great."

If Garnett is unable to go on Monday, the Cetlics will certainly miss his presence as they look to halt the Heat's winning streak at 22. Garnett had a huge game against Miami on Jan. 27 when Boston pulled out a 100-98 win in double-overtime. He had 24 points and 11 rebounds in the victory, which was the first of 11 straight for the Celtics at the TD Garden.
