Carmelo Anthony injury: Knicks without forward against Thunder

Melo won't be available for the New York Knicks against the Oklahoma City Thunder as he rests a minor knee injury.

The New York Knicks will be without forward Carmelo Anthony for the second game in a row as he rests a stiff knee, according to CBS Sports' Ken Berger. Anthony will sit out the Knicks' game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday after also missing a game on Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons.

New York pulled out an 87-77 win against the Pistons a game after Anthony left with a knee issue. On Monday, the All-Star forward played only 14 minutes in a 102-97 victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he later said that he had been dealing with soreness and stiffness in his right knee for a few days prior.

An MRI showed that while there was no structural damage, Anthony did have fluid buildup in his knee. Knicks coach Mike Woodson said the team won't push him back until he feels comfortable playing.

Against the Thunder, New York will miss the league's second-leader scorer as it faces an Oklahoma City squad led by the NBA's best scorer, Kevin Durant. The Thunder's All-Star is averaging 28.6 points per game to Anthony's 28.2.

Overall, keeping up with the second-best scoring team in the NBA will be tough. Without Anthony against the Pistons, the Knicks only netted 87 total points despite 20-plus point games from Amar'e Stoudemire, J.R. Smith and Raymond Felton.
