Kyrie Irving 'speechless' about Byron Scott's firing

John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Cavs' All-Star PG denied any rift in their relationship, calling his former head coach "his basketball father."

Kyrie Irving talked with reporters on Thursday immediately following the announcement of Byron Scott's firing. He appears to have taken the decision pretty hard:

Irving also denied any reports of a rift between him and Scott, which had surfaced in the final two months of the Cavaliers' tumultuous season.

In his two seasons under Scott's tutelage, Irving developed into one of the most promising PGs in the NBA, making his first All-Star team this season.

As an NBA head coach, Scott has now coached Jason Kidd, Chris Paul and Irving. Paul was not happy that Scott was let go in New Orleans.
