NBA Draft 2013: Russian guard Sergey Karasev declares

Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIRE

Sergey Karasev, a 19-year-old Russian shooting guard, will join the 2013 NBA Draft class.

Sergey Karasev, a 19-year-old Russian shooting guard, plans to enter the 2013 NBA Draft, according to Jonathan Givony of Draft Express. First reported in Karasev's native country, the news adds at least one intriguing international prospect to this year's class.

Officially listed as 6'8 and just 165 pounds, Karasev is a lanky wing currently playing professionally for BC Triumph Lyubertsy in the Russian Professional Basketball League. A participant in the 2013 Nike Hoop Summit scheduled for later this month, Karasev could boost his stock with an impressive showing at the event.

In 11 Russian league games this season, Karasev averaged 18.5 points on 52 percent shooting. In the more difficult Eurocup competitions, the teenager averaged 16.1 points per game and hit 49 percent of shots from three-point range.

The youngest member of the Russian national team that took bronze in the 2012 Summer Olympics, Karasev would become the fourth active Russian player in the NBA if drafted, joining Andrei Kirilenko, Alexey Shved and Timofey Mozgov.

Karasev is rated No. 27 in this year's draft class by Draft Express.
