Bulls' Luol Deng released from hospital, status unknown

Luol Deng was reportedly 'alarmed' by complications from a spinal tap, but he is now out of the hospital.

Luol Deng's reputation for toughness and playing through a variety of painful injuries is well-known. It took a hospitalization to keep him out of the final two games of the Chicago Bulls' first-round series win over the Brooklyn Nets.

Deng, who was suffering from flu-like systems, underwent a spinal tap to rule out meningitis. He didn't have meningitis, it turns out, but the spinal tap itself caused new complications. He had to have a blood patch to prevent spinal fluid leakage. Although he was released from the hospital Saturday, his status for the Bulls in the second round is still unknown.

"According to two people who spoke to Deng, he was alarmed by the side effects from the spinal tap, including headaches, disorientation and an unsteady gait after fluid was drained from his lower back," reported K.C. Johnson of The Chicago Tribune.

The Bulls open the second round at 7 p.m. ET Monday in Miami on TNT.
