Pistons to interview J.B. Bickerstaff for coaching job

USA TODAY Sports

Up and coming coach J.B. Bickerstaff will interview with the Detroit Pistons and general manager Joe Dumars for the head coaching job.

J.B. Bickerstaff will interview for the Detroit Pistons' head-coaching vacancy on Wednesday, reports Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski. The Houston Rockets assistant will join former Portland Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan, Phoenix Suns interim head coach Lindsey Hunter and San Antonio Spurs assistant Mike Budenholzer as other candidates who have interviewed with general manager Joe Dumars.

Bickerstaff is the son of long-time NBA coach Bernie Bickerstaff. At 34 years old, J.B. Bickerstaff has quickly made a name for himself in NBA coaching circles. Bickerstaff was the league's youngest head coach when he joined his father's staff on the Charlotte Bobcats in 2004. He remained with Charlotte through 2007, spent the next four seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves and joined Houston in 2012.

Bickerstaff played his college ball at Oregon State and Minnesota.

As for the Rockets' perspective, coach Kevin McHale could be searching for more than one new assistant this offseason. Kelvin Sampson has been a name popping up in head coaching searches in Milwaukee, Philadelphia and Charlotte, according to the Houston Chronicle.
