The 76ers needed a point guard after trading away Jrue Holiday for Nerlens Noel, and they got one in Michael Carter-Williams with the No. 11 pick.

After trading Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans for Nerlens Noel, the Philadelphia 76ers have selected Syracuse point guard Michael Carter-Williams with the No. 11 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Carter-Williams played two seasons at Syracuse, and he helped lead the Orange to a Final Four appearance in the 2013 NCAA Tournament before bowing out to Michigan. The rangy 6'6 guard put forth several strong tournament performances, including a 24-point, five-assist effort in a Sweet 16 upset of Indiana. Carter-Williams averaged 11.9 points, 7.3 assists and 4.9 rebounds on the season.

Carter-Williams has great size for his position and also boasts elite athleticism. He's best known for his playmaking skills, as he's an excellent passer with strong court vision. His wiry frame is a bit of a concern and his jumper is inconsistent, but the Sixers hopes those are things that can be improved once he gets to the NBA.

This pick makes perfect sense for Philadelphia after dealing away Holiday in the Noel deal. Carter-Williams will get the bulk of the time at point guard and should be able to develop nicely. He will also provide the Sixers with an excellent defensive presence, which is important given all the great point guards in the NBA.
