NBA Draft 2013: Oklahoma City Thunder select Steven Adams with No. 12 pick

USA TODAY Sports

Adams heads to Oklahoma City to help solidify the paint alongside Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have selected Steven Adams, a 7'0 center from the University of Pittsburgh, with the No. 12 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. The 19-year-old big man from New Zealand is a raw prospect, but he's one of the most intriguing talents in the draft.

Adams is a physical, high-energy guy who will help solidify the paint in Oklahoma City. Seeing as the Thunder already have plenty of scoring options on the roster, the addition of Adams makes sense. He should have plenty of time to develop and come into his own at the next level.

Adams is a long, athletic center who averaged 7.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in 23.4 minutes per game during his freshman season at Pittsburgh. Adams is a physical player who rebounded well in the NCAA, but he needs to put in a lot of work on the offensive end to develop his game. As a freshman, he shot 44.3 percent from the free throw line and averaged nearly twice as many turnovers (1.1) as assists (0.6).

It may take time for Adams to break into an NBA rotation. The good news is that he's very young, and he was already able to impact the game on the defensive end without getting into foul trouble. He actually averaged more blocks (2.0) than fouls (1.6), no mean feat as a young player in the rugged Big East Conference.
