Nuggets coaching search: Denver will reportedly ask to speak with Brian Shaw, Lionel Hollins

Denver, after letting George Karl go, suddenly enters the coaching search fray.

The Denver Nuggets let go of head coach George Karl on Thursday, and the team is likely going to seek permission to talk with Indiana Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw and Memphis Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

With Karl now available and the gap seemingly widening between Hollins and the Grizzlies, as their shared silence goes on longer, ESPN's Marc Stein cites a source that says a potential coach trade, of sorts, is now "conceivable," where Karl would head to Memphis and Hollins to Denver.

Karl had a year left on his deal in Denver, but apparently wasn't about to get the contract extension he reportedly desired. Hollins, on the other hand, has expressed his desire to remain with the Grizzlies, but after the team allowed other squads, such as the Los Angeles Clippers and Brooklyn Nets, to speak with him, along with this prolonged break in conversation between the two sides, his future in Memphis remains very much up in the air.

Shaw is reportedly the Clippers' No. 1 candidate as of now, after being an instrumental part of the Pacers' coaching staff that came within a game of the NBA Finals.
