The NBA officiating crew for NBA Finals series-opening bout between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs will be led by veteran Monty McCutchen, and he will be joined by Tony Brothers and Jason Phillips. Billy Kennedy will act as the alternate.
McCutchen, a 20-year NBA veteran, has refereed two of the Spurs' playoff games this year, both of which were wins. He was on the crew when the Spurs closed out the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference Finals on May 27 and has not witnessed a San Antonio loss in his last 10 games, according to Covers.com. McCutchen was also part of the Heat's last loss, a 91-77 bludgeoning against Indiana in that series' Game 6.
Brothers has been on McCutchen's crew in his last two games. In the last 10 games that Brothers has officiated the Spurs, Gregg Popovich's team has gone 8-2. Miami has a 7-3 record in Brothers' last 10 outings officiating.
The trio of officials have worked together twice.
