Heat, Michael Beasley agree to non-guaranteed contract

USA TODAY Sports

Michael Beasley is going back to the team that drafted him.

The Miami Heat have reached an agreement with free agent forward Michael Beasley, the team has announced. The deal is non-guaranteed and only pays Beasley if he makes the team out of training camp.

Beasley was drafted No. 2 overall by Miami in 2008, before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the summer of 2010 to clear salary cap space to allow the Heat to sign LeBron James and Chris Bosh, as well as re-sign Dwyane Wade. Beasley signed a three-year, $18 million contract with the Suns a year ago, but only spent one season in Phoenix before agreeing to a buyout following an August arrest for suspicion for marijuana possession.

Beasley is still just 24 years old, but his NBA career has been in rapid decline. His PER has dropped in every season of his career, culminating in a 10.91 mark last season. Beasley averaged 10.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last season for Phoenix in 75 games, shooting 40.5 percent from the field.
