Jared Sullinger pleads not guilty to domestic abuse charges

Jared Sullinger pleaded not guilty to three separate counts related to domestic abuse after turning himself in on Tuesday morning. He was released from jail, and the bail was set at $5,000.

Boston Celtics forward Jared Sullinger pleaded not guilty to domestic abuse charges after turning himself in earlier in the day for an alleged incident that occurred over the weekend. Sullinger was charged with assault and battery, malicious destruction of property and witness intimidation.

The judge allowed him to be released, according to the Boston Globe's David Abel, and the bail was set at $5,000. The presiding judge also decided to allow Sullinger to contact the victim by phone or with another person present.

According to the state, Sullinger pinned his girlfriend to the bed, pushed her and then grabbed her cell phone when she attempted to call police. The argument was allegedly over infidelity and the state claimed the victim had red marks on her chest.

Sullinger reportedly flew to Ohio following the alleged charges, but came back to turn himself in Tuesday morning.

The judge set a bail of $5,000 despite Sullinger's lawyers' wishes. They requested no bail, arguing that Sullinger and the alleged victim are "longtime sweethearts" that met while he played basketball at Ohio State.

The state was seeking a mental health evaluation, according to Abel, but the judge decided Sullinger shouldn't have to undergo that due to it being his first appearance in court.

Sullinger averaged six points and 5.9 rebounds with the Celtics last year, his first in the NBA.
