Kawhi Leonard injury: Spurs forward fractures finger vs. Thunder

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

San Antonio will be without its starting small forward for a bit.

Update (1/23): The San Antonio Express-News' Mike Monroe reports a re-examination of Kawhi Leonard's right hand will keep him out of action for 3-4 weeks.

San Antonio Spurs small forward Kawhi Leonard fractured the metacarpal in his right ring finger during the first half Wednesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He's out for the remainder of the game, the team announced, and a timetable for his return remains uncertain.

Leonard played 15 minutes in the first half Wednesday before the injury. He was fairly quiet, recording just three points, one assists and one rebound while shooting 1-of-2 from the field.

Without their starting small forward, the Spurs will likely turn to Danny Green and Marco Belinelli for extra minutes in the coming days. On a deep team, only Tony Parker and Tim Duncan play more minutes than Leonard, but few squads are better equipped to weather a short-term absence.

Entering Wednesday's action, Leonard was averaging 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.
