DeMarcus Cousins injury: Kings star out after spraining ankle

Brace Hemmelgarn-US PRESSWIRE

Having already lost Rudy Gay to an Achilles injury, the Kings could be even more shorthanded if their big man has to miss time.

DeMarcus Cousins is out of Wednesday's game against Houston after suffering an ankle injury. X-rays were negative, but one of the league's most dynamic young centers may have to miss some time.

On a drive to the basket, Cousins planted awkwardly on his left ankle. The twist altered his shot attempt, but he still managed to draw a foul on the play. However, the Kings center was unable to take his free throws, heading to the locker room immediately.

Cousins is the driving force of the Kings' offense, averaging more than 23 points and 11 rebounds this season. The big man has upped his totals in nearly every category this season, his fourth in the league after being drafted in 2010 by the Sacramento.

Exacerbating the effect this injury is the one suffered but Rudy Gay in the first quarter of the same game. The score-first forward injured his left Achilles and didn't return.
