Bobcats vs. Blazers recap: Portland drops 21 threes in 134-104 victory over Charlotte

Portland shot 63.6% from three as they shot the lights out against the Charlotte Bobcats at home.

The Portland Trail Blazers took it to one of the NBA's best defensive units, beating the Charlotte Bobcats 134-104 Thursday night at the Moda Center. The game was never close and the Trail Blazers' offensive attack looked to be absolutely unstoppable as they sank a team-high 21 three-pointers.

Portland came out gunning in the first quarter, shooting 7-of-8 from three against the Bobcats, who were fifth in opponent effective field goal percentage before tonight. The treys helped the Blazers to a 39-21 lead after the first 12 minutes of play that would set the tone for the rest of the game.

Charlotte's vaunted defense wasn't particularly effective, nor was their interior attack. The Bobcats were just +6 in the paint and they allowed Portland to dismantle them on the glass.

At no point in time were the Cats even close to competing in this one, as the Trail Blazers were unconscious from just about everywhere. It was a testament to the Portland offense when it really gets clicking, and a bit worrisome as Charlotte has been on a slide defensively despite their impressive season averages.

Wes Matthews scored 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 5-of-6 from three. Damian Lillard was a perfect 6-of-6 from deep as he added 24 points and seven assists. Mo Williams was key as he provided 10 assists and 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Portland became the first team in NBA history to have two or more games with 20+ made three-pointers in the same season.

For Charlotte, Al Jefferson had 19 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Chris Douglas-Roberts added 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting. No Bobcat had double-digit rebounds or assists.

The win moves the Blazers to a Western Conference-leading 26-7 record. Charlotte falls to 14-20, good enough for seventh place in the East.
