NBA trade rumors: Pau Gasol to Suns deal dying as Phoenix eyes Jordan Hill

USA TODAY Sports

The Suns are doing work to make a frontcourt upgrade at the trade deadline, and their interest in Pau Gasol is reportedly "dying on the vine."

The Phoenix Suns' interest in currently injured Lakers big man Pau Gasol seems to have washed away, according to NBA.com's David Aldridge, but that doesn't mean Suns general manager Ryan McDonough and the front office are setting down the phones. Aldridge reports the talks between Los Angeles and Phoenix are "dying at the vine," but the Suns remain active in looking to shore up their frontcourt.

Phoenix is looking for veterans to add to a center to a rotation that includes second-year pro Miles Plumlee, rookie Alex Len and forward Channing Frye.

Lakers big man Jordan Hill is being eyed by the Brooklyn Nets, Dallas Mavericks and the Suns, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, and he presents another, perhaps more reasonable upgrade for Phoenix. While head coach Jeff Hornacek would ideally like a two-way player, Hill would give the team more size and a solid option off the bench.

The Suns reportedly were interested in Brandon Bass, and they've also been said to have called the Memphis Grizzlies regarding big man Zach Randolph, who is not on the trading block.
