The latest, saddest news on the status of Lakers point guard Steve Nash is that his head coach thinks he's likely done for the year.

Los Angeles Lakers head coach Mike D'Antoni said on Monday that he doubts injured point guard Steve Nash will return this season, via Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times:

Nash himself was noncommittal on Monday, via Dave McMenamin of ESPN:

The 18-year-veteran, who is dealing with nerve issues in his back, last suited up for the Lakers on Feb. 11. He has played in only 10 games this year, averaging 7.6 points and 4.7 assists in 22.5 minutes. On Feb. 7, he had 19 points, five assists and four rebounds on his 40th birthday.

His struggles to come back from injury as his career is nearing an end are being documented in a documentary series called The Finish Line on Grantland. In the latest edition, Nash said that if Los Angeles releases him using the stretch provision in the offseason, "this is it."
