The impact of LeBron James' signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers is already being seen across the NBA landscape, as ESPN's Marc Stein reports Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love is "intrigued" by the possibility of partnering with LeBron and would even be willing to commit to the Cavs long-term.
That's potentially huge news for both teams, as Love has massive leverage in pressuring a trade from the Timberwolves given his pending free agency next summer. Love has said in the past that would leave Minnesota if the team doesn't put together a contender or trade him, and in recent weeks, the latter has seemed increasingly likely.
Summer of Love
Summer of Love
Previous rumors tied teams like the Celtics and Warriors to Love, but none of the other suitors could offer the opportunity to compete for NBA titles beside James. So while the Cavaliers haven't typically been a destination for good players, we can expect that to change now that LeBron makes them a perennial contender.
And should the Cavaliers actually get Love, they'll quickly become favorites in the Eastern Conference if they aren't already. With a core of James, Love and Kyrie Irving, few teams would be able to match the offensive firepower of Cleveland's best players.
It's unclear if Minnesota and Cleveland have discussed any trade scenarios yet, but the Cavs will surely make a run at adding another star to the roster. Given the young pieces they have and the allure of playing with James, don't be surprised if this eventually happens.
