(Sports Network) - The road hasn't been kind to the Phoenix Suns recently but playing in the desert has been a far different story.
The Suns are coming off their sixth straight road loss but will be aiming to remain the NBA's only perfect team at home tonight as they kick off a four-game homestand against the Washington Wizards.
Phoenix is a gaudy 9-0 as the host but fell to a far more pedestrian 8-9 on the road Thursday in Portland when Jerryd Bayless scored a career-best 29 points and Brandon Roy added 27, as the Blazers held off the Suns, 105-102.
Amare Stoudemire led Phoenix with 27 points and 11 rebounds, Grant Hill added 20 points and Steve Nash chipped in with 16 points and 13 assists. Channing Frye added 17 points and six rebounds in defeat.
"We didn't do a good job. Our transition defense was atrocious. They played harder then we did in the fourth quarter, and we did a poor job of execution and it cost us the game," said Suns head coach Alvin Gentry.
The Wizards, who will be finishing a four-game road trip tonight, snapped a six-game skid in Oakland on Friday when Gilbert Arenas finished with season highs of 45 points and 13 assists, as Washington earned a 118-109 victory over the Golden State Warriors.
Additionally, the Wizards avoided setting a dubious NBA record, as their six losses all came by four or fewer points, tying the 1976-77 Suns for the NBA record in that category.
Four Wizards had double-doubles, as Caron Butler had 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Brendan Haywood ended with 15 points and 12 boards. Antawn Jamison, who played 36-plus minutes after suffering a stinger in his left shoulder, ended with 10 points and 10 boards in the victory.
Washington has dropped six straight to the Suns but Arenas went off for 54 points the last time he played in Phoenix, a 144-139 Wiz overtime win on Dec. 22, 2006.
