The Nets made it clear on Sunday that they aren't quite ready for playoff contention, laying an egg against the Raptors at the Prudential Center. It was Toronto's first win without Andrea Bargnani and it wasn't close.

Avery Johnson had his daily medical report today and there was good news and bad news. Under bad news (we have to start there), Mehmet Okur will be out Sunday with back spasms and will miss "a couple games," according to Johnson. Although an MRI was negative, Okur will see a back specialist.
The Nets now have an opportunity to prove whether they are legitimate playoff contenders in the woeful Eastern Conference. In spite of their woeful start, they're only a game and a half behind the eighth place Bucks and tied with the spiraling Knicks at 7-13. Just behind them are the Raptors at 6-14.
