The Celtics entered this game down two star starters and facing a possible 0-2 hole. They leave the game with home court advantage stolen, Rondo coming back (angry and rested), Joe Smith hurt, and all the momentum in the series.
We continue with our Top Terp Tournament, looking at top players of the Gary Williams era. Today #7 Steve Francis vs. #2 Joe Smith
Joe Smith isn't much of a basketball player, but he's had one hell of a story.
As a kid from Philadelphia, Kobe Bryant remains an Eagles fan to this day. Which means that like all Eagles fan he hates the Cowboys and has to deal with their "fans" wherever he goes.
As both the NBA and its players association issued ominous warnings about contract talks Friday, Devin Harris and Joe Smith were quoted saying they fear a work stoppage would hurt not just them but the NBA and the game.
The Nets will be jet-lagged. That's a guarantee. The Knicks will be energized following their last-second win over the Wizards Sunday night, their first this preseason against an NBA team. With only two preseason games left --the other is vs. the Celtics in Boston Wednesday-- expect the Nets to try to get a good read on their rotation.
Veteran forward Joe Smith is expected to take a physical and sign a contract with the Nets on Friday.
I hate afternoon games. They sneak up on you for no particularly good reason, and you have ill-time to prepare. Nevertheless, I predict a solid victory by the Hawks. And Joe Smith is awesome!
