The Nets have announced that the long-rumored hirings of Mario Elie and P.J. Carlesimo are official.

Al Iannazzone reports that the Nets have indeed hired both Mario Elie and P.J. Carlesimo, and in fact Elie showed up this morning at the PNY Center. Billy King wouldn't confirm the two had been hiring, saying there will be an announcement once deals are struck.

The Nets have two openings along the bench and David Aldridge reports that Mario Elie, a teammate of Avery Johnson''s on the 1999 Spurs title team, may fill one of them. The Nets may also look at Keith Smart, the former Warriors coach. Moreover, Aldridge reports Sam Mitchell may not return to the Nets bench.
