The Armor had their most satisfying win of the season Friday as they beat East-leading Canton and their top NBA prospects all played well. Adonis Thomas, the 6'7" swingman, finished with 23 and six, continuing his hot streatk.

Willie Reed scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as the Armor defeated the Maine Red Claws in Portland, 98-90. The newest Armor player, Darius Johnson-Odom, playing the point, scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and handed out four assists.

Big plans for Armor not working out

The Nets have big plans for the Armor, wanting it to be a true development team, not unlike a baseball minor league team. But as injuries decimated the big club, the Armor hasn't seen any Nets players and they keep losing, now 1-8.

Doug Overton wins first game as Armor coach

Doug Overton got his first win as a head coach Friday night in Portland, Maine, as the Armor defeated the Maine Red Claws, 92-81. Springfield had been 0-5 under Overton, the long-time Nets development coach who moved north this season.

According to a source, NBA veteran Cliff Robinson will be joining the Springfield Armor as an assistant coach. The former Nets forward also helped out at one of their open tryout sessions last month.

NBA Veterans Help Out At Armor's Open Tryout

As the Springfield Armor host an open tryout in New Jersey this weekend, new head coach Doug Overton is getting some help from fellow NBA veterans Cliff Robinson and Zendon Hamilton.

Want to try out for Armor? It'll cost you $150

The Springfield Armor will hold open player tryouts on September 28 in New Jersey and on October 20 in Springfield leading into the 2013-14 NBA Development League season. Anyone interested in trying out only need to send $150 to the Armor offices.

Workouts for training camp invites set

Josh Newman reports that the Nets will hold a tryout camp the week of September 9 for "under-the-radar players who are looking to secure training camp invites." Newman identifies one player, 6'10" Queens native Kyle Hunt, who's already signed up.

Overton happy to be with Springfield Armor job

Doug Overton is headed to Springfield to run the Nets' D-League team, the ultimate development job. Although he's going to be working mostly with the Armor, he'll be with the Nets before and after the D-League season. He's happy with the arrangement.
