Warriors cut ties with Mullin; name Larry Riley GM

Sports Network | May 11, 2009

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - The Golden State Warriors announced Monday they have chosen not to renew the contract of executive vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin.

In a related move, the Warriors named Larry Riley as general manager.

The 45-year-old Mullin has been at his post since April 2004. His contract is set to expire on June 30. Prior to his front office tenure, Mullin spent 13 seasons of his 16-year NBA career with the Warriors.

"It's never an easy decision to make a change," said Warriors president Robert Rowell. "This case is compounded by the fact it involves Chris Mullin -- someone who has provided Bay Area fans with many great memories over the years, as both a player and executive. He's a class individual who will always be remembered for his accomplishments with the Warriors organization."

The 64-year-old Riley has spent the last six-plus months as assistant GM of the Warriors.
