Former Valparaiso head coach Homer Drew confirmed Tuesday that both he and his wife Janet have recently been diagnosed with cancer. He declined to elaborate on the types of cancer or when the diagnosis occurred.
"Janet and I would like to thank everyone for their well-wishes and prayers," Drew said. "We are very appreciative of the support from our family and friends, as well as the Valparaiso community."
Drew was the head men's basketball coach at Valpo for 22 years before retiring last May. His son, and former Crusader superstar, Bryce, was named the program's new head coach the day after Homer announced his retirement.
