6:00 – Not gonna lie to you, this one’s going to receive about zero percent of my attention once Duke/Michigan State starts at 7.
FIU pulled an upset of George Mason to get to this game, a win witch was probably the biggest of the Isiah Thomas era. The winner gets a trip to Madison Square Garden for the preseason NIT semifinals. That winner will be Virginia Tech. By 21.
6:10 - 12-2 Tech lead early on. Isiah's got blank Isiah face going earlier than usual.
6:24 - Credit FIU for surviving the first five minutes here. It's 16-10 Tech about midway through the first half and the Golden Panthers are competing.
6:28 - If there's one thing I know about Virginia Tech, even this early in the season, it's that they will either be absolutely in the field of 68 or absolutely out. Seth Greenberg is not a man who likes to leave anything to chance.
6:45 - FIU battles back from another double-digit lead and uses an 11-0 spurt to get within two (25-23). All 75 Hokie fans in attendance appear mildly inconvenienced.
6:58 - Tech carries a 33-26 lead into the half. You have to think they took FIU's best shot there. Hokie guard Dorenzo Hudson leads all scorers with 16. Former high-profile recruit Dominique Ferguson leads the way for the Golden Panthers with nine.
7:23 - 39-32, Tech...for the zero of you checking this stream now.
7:48 - VT has pulled out to a 69-48 lead. Hudson has 25. The Hokies are headed to Madison Square Garden.
8:12 - Va. Tech takes it, 78-63.
Game Rating: 2
I watched maybe 15 minutes. Yes, I still think that's a fair rating.
Prediction Result: 9-1
Not even going to brag about this one.
Consumption: 1 cough drop
Symbolic of the game.
