The Iowa Hawkeyes upset the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday afternoon behind solid bench play from Aaron White and Bryce Cartwright.
The Wisconsin Badgers suffered their third loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, but it was the first that came to an unranked team. The Iowa Hawkeyes upset their midwest counterparts, 72-65, in the Big Ten match-up on New Year's Eve.
The two teams were tied at 31 points apiece at halftime, but the Hawkeyes bench came up big in the second half to propel Iowa to the upset over the 11th-ranked Badgers.
Iowa's bench scored 37 points among just three players with the majority of those players coming in the second half. Senior guard Bryce Cartwright and freshman forward Aaron White provided the majority of the scoring punch by combing for 35 points to complement their starting counterparts. Cartwright contributed five assists in addition to his 17 points while White made both of his three-point attempts and grabbed four rebounds for good measure.
The Badgers struggled from the field as they shot just 35 percent, including an awful 3-for-28 from beyond the three-point arc, but Jordan Taylor led Wisconsin with an all-around game featuring 17 points, six rebounds and four assists to round out his game.
