Renardo Sidney finally played to his potential on Friday night in the SEC Tournament, but it wasn’t enough as the Vanderbilt Commodores survived and advanced with an 87-81 win. Sidney scored 22 points, but John Jenkins upstaged him for the Commodores, scoring 29 points of his own. In a game that was close throughout, Vanderbilt came back from a two-point halftime deficit to pull-away down the stretch while securing a six-point win.
Jenkins’ 29 points led the way for Vanderbilt, with Jeffrey Taylor adding 20 points. Brad Tinsley was also in double-figures, scoring 12 points. Tinsley also had a team-high six assists.
Sidney got plenty of help, but it wasn’t enough for the Bulldogs to overcome Jenkins’ scoring outburst. Dee Bost had a double-double, finishing with 16 points and 11 assists. Ravern Johnson added 18 points and Kodi Augustus was also in double-figures with 10 points.
Vanderbilt moves on to face Florida in the semifinals on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
