Big 12 Tournament Championship Game 2011: Kansas Holds Off Texas, Wins Big 12 Tournament With 85-73 Victory

The Texas Longhorns did their best to fight back in the second half of the 2011 Big 12 Tournament Championship, but the Kansas Jayhawks were just too good in the end, holding off Texas to notch a 85-73 victory. Kansas had a 16 point lead at halftime, a lead which Texas cut down to single digits on multiple occasions, but the Jayhawks held firm, hitting a big shot to kill Texas's momentum every time they had to.

The Morris brothers were fantastic, both putting in complete performances. They scored on the inside, shot well from the outside, got out on the fast break, and rebounded well. All five Kansas starters scored in double digits, while both Tyshawn Taylor and Brady Morningstar did a great job of setting up their teammates, with Taylor notching five assists and Morningstar tallying six of his own.

With their win over Texas to capture the Big 12 tournament title, the Kansas Jayhawks are all but locked into a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. If Ohio State don't absolutely obliterate Penn State in the Big 10 final tomorrow, the Jayhawks could very well find themselves as the No. 1 overall seed.

Kansas Vs. Texas Score: Jayhawks Dominate First Half Of Big 12 Championship

On Saturday night, Kansas has blown past Texas in the first half of the Big 12 championship game. The Jayhawks led at halftime, 48-33.

They're led by Tyshawn Taylor, who has made some impressive inside penetrations to score 13 points. Markieff Morris is well on his way to a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.

On the Longhorns' side of the ball, Jordan Hamilton has scored ten points, but Texas has been unable to slow down the Jayhawks' shooting. Kansas shot 58.8 percent in the first half, and the rebound game (22 to 12) is pretty firmly in Kansas' favor as well.

Big 12 Championship Game 2011: No. 2 Kansas, No. 10 Texas Play For Title

On Saturday, No. 2 Kansas will seek to win its fifth Big 12 title in six years. Looking to win their first are the No. 10 Texas Longhorns. The two tip off at 6 p.m. Eastern in Kansas City.

The Jayhawks have advanced this far after edging Oklahoma State on Friday, then surviving Colorado on Saturday night. The Longhorns are fewer than 24 hours removed from a hard-fought 70-68 win over in-state rival Oklahoma State.

Kansas has reason to hold a grudge against its Big 12 rival. The Jayhawks had amassed an undefeated 18-0 record before Texas dealt them a 74-63 upset that also ended their 69-game home winning streak. J'Covan Brown busted free for 29 points, while Kansas was held to 35.9 percent shooting.
